I have read and heard from members about how glad they are that the forum is back, how important it is to them and they didn't know where they would go as an alternative.
I echo those sentiments and wanted to take a moment to relay this to the importance of forum support. First off, for those who have provided support to the forum, thank you.
This is an open forum that does not require a membership to view information, ask questions, find research, etc. Because of this, we have a huge number of members and lurkers who do just that and yet do not contribute or help in keeping the forum up and running. This is not a self-sustaining forum. There are no banner ads sold, no required membership fees, etc. I think that for a large number of members this is taken for granted. It is just assumed that someone is going to pay to keep it up and running and it will always be here to gain priceless information - for free.
I don't mean to get on a soapbox here, but where else are you going to go to garner as much insight, knowledge, support, and read about others' experiences? When I said priceless, I meant it. But, don't you think that it is worth donating to maintain access?
$20, $50, $100?
How much do you feel this forum is worth to you? - not a rhetorical question.
If your answer is zero, you wouldn't be reading this right now.
This is not a money-making venture for SO. In fact, he often pays out of his own pocket to keep the lights on (thank you). All moderators are volunteer and have never, ever been compensated in any way, shape, form or fashion. The vast majority of our members have no idea behind the history leading to the start of this forum. Let's just say that shills, lies and manipulation of previous forums moved SO to open a place with truthful, free-flowing information that could be trusted - it was much needed and still is, as was proven by the vacuum left when the site was down.
I'll just leave it at that but seriously consider donating. It's a way to say thank you and a way to pay it forward so the guy behind you can have access to the information, too.
