This is a first post from a casual lurker. First, a major compliment to the site organisers and moderators who do a really phenomenal job - this is by far the best site of its kind.
Background
I am over 50, married with a young wife, and have always believed myself to be modestly endowed (below average) but have never had any major problem with this. I have had a lot of fun in my sex life and have the feeling that my previous partners have too. Hence I have never thought too much about my “John Thomas” although sadly have never received any "big boy" compliments or the like - we have what we have, not only in terms of our physical assets, but in terms of intelligence, looks, wit, charm, whatever, and need to make the best of it.
Nevertheless, I will admit that I have sometimes wondered what it might be like to possess more significant “equipment”, sufficient to promote immediate and simple wonder/delight/shock/awe amongst the fairer sex. Recently, I saw the BBC documentary about penis surgery and had the impression that such enhancements had stealthily become mainstream without my awareness. It seemed potentially that a few grand and a bit of courage might be sufficient to promote my John Thomas to the big time.
Research
My first step was a fresh review of my own “equipment” including some proper measurements and online analysis of male stats. This led me to believe that my own John Thomas was not quite as diminutive as I had imagined - I am just short of 16cm (6.3in) bone-pressed length (bone-pressed seems a bit like cheating but WTF) and 13cm (5.1in) girth (14cm, 5.5in at base). The stats I have seen suggest I am surprisingly around average which has encouraged me somewhat. Another contributor somewhere made the point that the view from the perspective of the “owner” is often the least advantageous (looks short and thin from above) which has probably contributed to my generally negative impression of my own equipment over the years.
On the basis that any reasonable enhancements seemed now to be surgically feasible, I tried to figure out what I should wish for - design my own dick! What do women want? Of course there is no end of nonsense on the i-net but I did read about a more interesting study conducted with women choosing their ideal 3D-printed penises for one-night stand and long-term relationship scenarios. I looked at the base data (for interest summarised below) and concluded (i) that different women want different things but (ii) that a modest enhancement to my own John Thomas (erect length: +1in, girth: +0.5in) might put me in a comfortable and realistic sweet spot.

I then set about trying to find a clinic to do the deed and initially looked at German clinics ("world champs" at penis ops). I called one clinic (UGRS) but found their approach rather more commercial than medical. I then looked at the limited online references for them which were somewhat negative (including here) so I hesitated.
With more and more research, it became increasingly clear that the whole project was not as straightforward as I had imagined. By the way, this site is certainly one of the best resources anywhere.
The Bottom Line?
As of today, I have come to the (disappointing) conclusion that my initial “design your own dick” initiative has some major limitations.
Specifically, my impression is that increases in erect length are simply not possible surgically and may only be achieved to a limited extent manually with some fearsome hardware in the trousers (including in the office) and years of dedication. Is this a fair summary?
On the other hand, improvements in girth (potentially very interesting for me as it may also improve flaccid stats as a side-effect) do seem more promising but as far I can tell the results with different approaches (own fat, PMMA, HA, etc) appear to be inconsistent (and in some cases non-permanent - which may be good or bad). This may still be a way forward but it is not yet clear to me which is the obvious “route to glory” likely to combine both attractive results and limited risk.
I would still be potentially interested to invest in some modest improvements (including temporary improvements if safer) but I am now quite uncertain as to how to proceed. Any thoughts?
